What made you decide to say yes to radio publicity with Annie Jennings PR?
Annie herself I think is probably the best publicist. She is so confident that she can get you want and it’s true. I have found that in the past, working with other publicists that they may offer to deliver quite a bit but in reality they haven’t. Annie is very clear with her intention setting and she has absolutely delivered.
Do you think that Annie Jennings PR understood your book marketing goals with your radio publicity?
Part of what is so good about Annie is that she is very upfront with you. She can tell you what she can and can’t do. I had never done radio before. I had been on podcasts before but never a guest on radio talk shows. Annie explained the entire process to me. We talked about the media training, how radio works and the flexibility that I would need for the campaign. I felt like someone was always going to be looking out for me. She absolutely delivered.
Did your free unlimited media training help you with your radio publicity interviews?
The media training is a key point of differentiation from other publicity companies that I have worked with. I spoke with your media training team and I was grilled in an interview for about 20 minutes. I was asked key questions that I might be asked in a radio interview. Afterwards, I got really good feedback about how to use my book in my answers more or how to answer questions that I might be uncomfortable with at the time. I felt very prepared by the time I had my first interview.
It’s kind of funny, you can get a last minute booking that really gets your adrenaline going. You get excited that the shows want to hear what you have to say and you have this amazing audience. It has been really fun. Sometimes the interviews are 10 minutes long and just last week I had one that lasted two hours. It runs the gamut.
What the media training has given me more than the publicity is this gift of being able to speak spontaneously with full accountability about my opinions and knowing that I am helping people, it has been a great skill that I have been able to hone with my interviews.
How are you leveraging your radio publicity interviews to forward your business growth strategy?
I have an amazing assistant who is like my other half and we post every radio show that is recorded. We post everything about the shows on all of our social media, sometimes we use art work or we create GIFs. We transcribe everything so we have quotations. Depending on what was said and with whom and to what market, we can leverage these comments and conversations to other opportunities such as being hired for speaking engagements or for my bio if I had a big name interview with a major show or big name host. We can use our radio shows to leverage in other platforms. I did this great interview for 2 hours with a high-powered host. We got 19 callers. People were calling in from every state in the country. I can use this in my own research as well. It was fascinating.
What would you say to others who are thinking about working with Annie Jennings PR for their book marketing and publicity?
I would say try it. I went in kind of cold and did not know what to expect. It’s been so fruitful on so many levels. Annie was right, how do you reach these markets that I think I would never be able to reach? It was an option that I had not considered and when I did and it became something that I pursued, it has been probably more fruitful than any other publicity route – either traditional or social media – that I have been engaged in.
