Breaking news experts get publicity on TV shows & major online media outlets.
Annie Jennings PR is a top national public relations firm booking experts on breaking news cycle issues. This includes breaking news topics in the economy, finance, the stock market, health, viruses, crime, political issues and lots more.
The media books top experts and authorities in their field. Professional certifications help create expert authority for publicity.
Major media books expert commentary when a news event hits the new cycle. They book experts who have top credentials such as PhD’s or Medical Doctors for these situations and major media events. To be a breaking news guest, the guest should have a credentialed bio and a built up media resume that includes influential brand previous media experience.
Watch our publicity client on TV discussing breaking news and a news cycle topic. Dr. Raja was set up in advance with our firm so he would be ready when an event happened where his credentials and experience would be needed for commentary or analysis. No ones knows what is going to happen minute by minute, hour by hour or day by day. But when it happens, the media moves fast. Be ready in advance.
How to get booked on TV shows as the authority or expert commentator.
As mentioned earlier, professional credentials are very important when approaching the media with a request to be an expert commentator for their show. The breaking news shows book experts for various commentary and analysis as the story unfolds. The first booking is about what happened. The following bookings are about how the event will impact those affected and so on. As the breaking news story continues to unfold numerous types of professional commentary might be needed.
PhD, MBA, Medical Doctor, M.D., EdD, Doctorates and other advanced credentials for publicity opportunities.
If you are a good candidate for TV and have advanced credentials the media may have an interest in knowing more about you. The media would like you to have on hand and ready to go. They would like to have your professional bio or CV, a demo of you on a previous TV shows as a news commentator and any other big brand media assets you have to showcase your knowledge and experience. They like to review your previous TV appearances to determine how you handled yourself on the air, the quality of your responses and your ability to have an interesting discussion with the host. They will also notice what you are wearing and how professional you appear to get an overall impression of your readiness to be on the show.
How to dress for an on camera media event as the guest expert.
Keep in mind that if you are a breaking news expert you should be prepared to dress the part. Notice how the host is dressed and match the style. For men, my advice is to match the host, that is follow, their lead. However if you do not have access to the previous TV segments from the outlet for review, assume it is professional and dress in a suit and tie. Avoid bright colors or patterns. And if you want to add some zing to your appearance, you can show off your personality with a nice tie. At the end of the day, look the part. For women, dress in business upscale professional in rich colors (but not red). Try out your makeup in advance, learn how to apply camera ready makeup and buy your HD (high definition products). Avoid distracting jewelry or hair styles. Simple is better. I have reviewed numerous TV shows and I like a professional C-suite neckline with minimal jewelry and a great hair cut (no big fluff or see through up do’s). And the same advice for me goes for women too. See if you can view a typical segment in advance to get an idea of how the host dresses and follow that protocol.
How do you get ready for a TV interview that takes place using SKYPE?
Before you even approach the media, be sure that you Skype works perfectly. Be sure you can call out. Make sure you can receive calls as well. If you are new to Skype practice many times and write down notes so when you big day comes, you will understand the procedure perfect.
Make sure your headset is working property. Remember, this is all accomplished before you are even pitched to the media. Once the media moves, especially on news cycle story or breaking news story, they move fast. There is no time to trouble shoot. Be sure the highest quality headset you can afford and practice. Call your friends, take calls from your friends all wearing your headset. Some headsets should as if you are speaking in a tunnel or you are far away. You want to know this is advance as your goals is to sound up close and personal. Ask your friends and professional collegeages for tips on how to set up a studio quality skype environment.
With a Skype TV shows interview, be aware of your background. What will the viewers see? Again, set up your environment to resemble a studio with everything neat and in its place. A distracting background will negatively influence your status as a sought after Skype guest. You will be surprised at how much background Skype can pick up so it’s about practicing, noticing, evaluating and fixing the errors. Be sure to have lots of good lighting available as well to avoid shadowing part of your face. Know how you look while on the interview, while practicing, so you can move the computer if needed or angle it for a better outcome or add more light or fix the background.
Google “can you record Skype video calls” and see what they advise. This way, you can record your practice and notice what you may have not noticed about your performance and environment before. This can include background but also fidgeting or touching your hair a lot or other behavior that you would like to avoid during the actual event. This just takes practice in performance without the distraction and/or sitting on your hands!
