Her mission is to educate the public on maternal and neonatal health issues. She is the author of three books, articles in the Journal of Pediatrics and the Journal of Perinatology, a fierce advocate, a passionate public speaker, an active member of the International Neonatal Consortium, and she also serves on the Board of Directors for the NICU Parent Network and NIDCAP Federation International. Jennifer Degl is the mother of four, including a micro preemie who was born at 23 weeks gestation, and the founder of Speaking for Moms and Babies, Inc. Jennifer has been a high school science teacher for 20 years and believes education is the key to healthcare reform. Her first book From Hope to Joy: A Memoir of a Mother's Determination and Her Micro Preemie's Struggle to Beat the Odds is about her life-threatening pregnancy and subsequent premature birth of her daughter. Her second book Stuck in Bed: The pregnancy bed rest picture book for kids ... and moms is a book designed for parents to read to young children to help explain why mommy is in bed and cannot participate in the regular household activities during her pregnancy, but also show the child how much fun they can still have in the bed together until the new baby is born. Her third book I Was Small, But Now I'm Tall is an engaging book for a child who was born prematurely, telling the tale of their earliest days in life in simple terms that kids can relate to. It tells the story of a baby that was born much too early and spent many months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This premature baby, like many others, overcame the obstacles that threatened her survival and grew into a strong child.
