What’s the first image that comes to mind?
Well, it’s seems to be about an ordinary guy, in a brown work-style jacket in a pick up truck . . . on a mission.
Wow, Scott Brown packs a powerful branding punch! I bet we can all close our eyes and see him in his brown coat walking around the streets of Boston or envision the image of an old pick up truck driven by a man and his dreams on his way to Washington DC after having beaten the odds.
Politics aside (we are publicists not political pundits), we are discussing branding and how it works. Scott Brown is just the example that we are talk about right now.
Now, we watch for consistency. Scott’s brand is built now, and for today, it is secure. He needs to continue to strengthen his brand day in and day out and NOT do anything inconsistent to his brand. Yes, keep the coat, and the pick-up and yes, drive the truck to Washington DC.
What can you learn? Build your brand around who you are and what you believe in as this stands the test of time. And it’s consistency over time that you need to build a strong brand.
And let’s watch politics unfold from here from the perspective of branding (and we can let the politics alone as our goal is to notice, critique and learn about the power of image, the power of branding).
And here’s a little fodder for you. What would happen if you matched up a guy on a mission in a pick-up truck headed for DC along with a “rogue” lady who hunts to feed her family dinner who also headed for DC on a mission?
Let’s watch.
